The Trick

JS Bach: St. Matthew Passion

St Edmundsbury Cathedral at 6.30pm

Bury Bach Choir, with five soloists, the Boy Choristers of St Edmundsbury Cathedral and Suffolk Baroque Players, perform J S Bach’s choral masterpiece. Relating the story of Jesus’s suffering and death, the drama, variety and majesty of the music grabs the listener from the first note and never lets go. Bach’s phenomenal imagination and skill are apparent throughout. The score, one of the most ambitious compositions of all time, calls for double orchestra and double choir – three choirs at one point. The musical textures range widely from complex counterpoint to simple hymns.

Hadleigh Choral Society - St. John Passion

St Mary's Church, Hadleigh 7:30 pm

Hadleigh Choral Society is pleased to announce the details of their upcoming spring concert: St. John Passion by J.S. Bach. This choral work will be performed in the original German text at St. Mary's Church, Hadleigh on Saturday 6th April at 7:30 pm, and will feature professional soloists along with the Colchester Symphony Orchestra, John Cooper on harpsichord and David Butcher on organ. Christopher Phelps will conduct this musical retelling of the story of Christ’s arrest, trial and crucifixion, in what promises to be a memorable evening full of wonderful music-making.

Mozart's Requiem

Event description: Featuring Mozart’s ‘Requiem’, Ipswich Choral Society and Music Director Robin Walker return to Snape on 6 April, with international conductor and ICS President Cem Mansur joining them as guest conductor for the performance.
The concert includes the world première of ‘The Affirming Flame’ by Grammy award winning tenor and composer Tom Randle.
