Inspired by Becker Art Exhibition 2019

Holy Trinity Church, Blythburgh.

In 2013 the first ‘Inspired by Becker’ Art exhibition was curated out of the submissions of over 60 artists producing contemporary art work of their own which responds to some aspect of Becker’s work. We realised that much love and interest exists in his work, and have continued this annual, popular show of contemporary fine art, now in its 7th year. For the first time, in 2019, we will be located in Holy Trinity, Blythburgh, where the Becker grave lies and where the tenor bell was gifted by Becker’s widow and daughter. The exhibition runs from 6pm 21 August (Preview) to 5.30pm Monday 26th August. 10.30 to 5.30pm each day.

Becker ‘turned his back on Edwardian London’s thriving art scene to begin a life of anonymity and hardship in the farming community of Suffolk’s Blyth Valley…. Whether observing the plough teams, cart loaders or sheep shearers, he wasn’t seeking perfection or to create masterpieces for gallery walls, but was simply paying tribute to the men and beasts that brought to life the landscape around him. His pencil, charcoal and chalk drawings are works of seconds, while even his watercolours and oils took just minutes to complete' (Ref. Alan Marshall, 'Harry Becker's Suffolk'. 2013. By kind permission.)
