A leading law firm has appointed a senior associate to its real estate team in order to strengthen its offering.

Prettys, which is based in the Suffolk town of Ipswich and specialises in both commercial and personal law, welcomed Rebecca Cleal - who has brought more than a decade of experience in the property industry - to the firm.

Ms Cleal, who will be responsible for a number of commercial landlord and tenant issues, is delighted to be joining Prettys.

“I am so excited to have been offered a position in such a dynamic and commercially-minded team,” she said.

“Everyone has made me feel so welcome and Prettys has a wonderfully supportive environment for its employees. I hope to be able to offer both the team and Prettys’ clients the benefit of my commercial in-house experience where I have sat on the ‘other side’ of purchasing legal services.”

Qualifying as a solicitor in 2006, Rebecca worked for ten years as an in-house counsel at a Norfolk-based company where she managed a commercial portfolio of more than 500 leasehold properties and 250 residential premises.

As part of the real estate team at Prettys, she will provide expertise in the following:

  • Commercial freehold acquisitions and disposals, property due diligence, lease-drafting and negotiation

  • Agreements for lease (both conditional and unconditional) and greenfield site acquisition

  • Fluid and efficient legal reporting, with reports tailored to business needs

  • Residential portfolio management of service occupancy licences, advice and support

  • Dilapidations negotiation and drafting of discharge documents

  • Deeds of Easement and Wayleaves

  • Assignments, consents to alter and variation of lease

Ian Carr, CEO at Prettys, is pleased to have Ms Cleal on board.

“Rebecca brings yet another dimension to the team, having held a senior position with a large commercial organisation,” he said.

“We look forward to her having a big impact with clients and on the overall structure of the team.”

Rebecca’s appointment signifies more growth for the firm which operates across East Anglia, the UK and internationally.
