Angela A’Court: All That I Belong To
Thompson’s Gallery Aldeburgh is pleased to announce Angela A’court: All That I Belong To, a sympathetic body of work in response to the poem 'By Heart'
by Thomas John Carlisle which the artist found as a torn newspaper scrap over 30 years ago while looking through her mother's affairs after she passed away.
Gathering her visual language from the grace of everyday ordinaries and the beauty of those private memories we hold with personal objects. Angela asks ‘what do we bring and what do we change when faced with four new walls?
It can be a process that energises; a combination of discovery and exploration as well as a moment of reflection and self-examination’
The poem speaks to A’court of how we make sense of the spaces around us; how the physical seeps into our conscious life and how this has helped her understand herself and her work.
Originally form London, award winning A'Court now lives and works in New York City. She studied at Goldsmiths University of London, West Surrey College of Art and Parsons School of Art and Design in New York City and was elected to the Royal Pastel Society in 2009. She exhibits in the USA and UK & her work appears in public and private collections worldwide.
Describing herself as a visual chronicler, A’courts attachment to the words of the poem are sensitive & restorative and we are delighted to be hosting this highly anticipated collection of works.
