A Brighter Christmas for children, young people and families

Working across the East of England, Ormiston Families provides mental health and wellbeing services to enable children, young people and their families to feel safe, healthy and resilient.

For some of the children, young people and families it supports, Christmas can be a very difficult time. Some children will be missing a parent in prison, other service users might be dealing with anxiety or perinatal mental health issues, and some parents will be reminded of the pain of having their children removed from their care.
To help the charity make sure its service users can have brighter Christmases, Ormiston Families is inviting you to get involved in its ‘A Brighter Christmas’ campaign. Your support can ensure its practitioners can be there for even more children like Charlie who needed them when his dad went to prison:
He says:
“You have helped me very much with my feelings and helped me to know I won’t see dad for a long time. I can now talk to my teacher as you’ve helped her to understand me too.”
This year is going to be different for all of us and at times may seem dark, with no light at the end of the tunnel. Just like the families Ormiston Families supports, everyone deserves to feel brighter and more positive about the future.
How to get involved:
To help make this Christmas feel especially festive and bright, the charity is holding a special virtual event that you can take part in at home with members from your household, whilst at the same time connecting with friends, extended family and colleagues who are participating too.
‘Festive Bake-along’ is taking place on 21st December 2020 at 2.30pm. The event will be hosted by Kelsi and Stephen from at-home baking kit delivery service Bake it Box who will be teaching you how to bake Rudolph Brownies – something for all the family to enjoy! Each ticket will include a box delivered to your home with all the ingredients needed measured out, a festive activity for kids, and a printed recipe and instructions for the bake.

Individual Giving Manager, Georgia Clark says:

“The Festive Bake-along is the perfect activity to take part in with your children, if you are an avid baker, or if you just fancy a break from your work screen! Your contribution will help us to make a real difference to people across the East of England who are experiencing some really tough situations right now, and provide them with the tools they need to look after their wellbeing and face a brighter future.”

Stephen and Kelsi from Bake it Box commented:
"We were so excited to be asked by the Ormiston Families organisation to help host a festive bake-along. Not only can we bring some fun to everyone that participates, but we can also help young people and families as well. Everyone deserves the support they need to be happy, and what better way is there to achieve this than by baking and having fun together!"

Keep an eye out for the charity’s ‘Santa Paws’ and ‘Deck your Desk’ events which will be taking place throughout December on social media as an extra bit of festive fun with some fantastic prizes up for grabs!
